Cavalry Master doubles the flanking triggers on every flanking creature you control — a multiplicative pump that punishes any deck leaning on creatures with toughness 2 or less. The body and cost are fine for a lord effect, but the payoff is entirely contingent on running a dedicated flanking package, which makes Cavalry Master a niche all-in card rather than a generic include.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Cavalry Master is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive Modern and Legacy have zero interest in a flanking-matters build — the keyword simply doesn't have the density of support needed to compete at those tables. In Commander, Cavalry Master finds its only real home: a dedicated flanking tribal deck can stack multiple triggers per combat step, and the 40-life format gives you enough time to assemble the package. Oathbreaker is theoretically viable but suffers the same problem as 60-card formats — too few flanking cards to reliably trigger the doubling effect.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Cavalry Master is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy. It's unlikely to appreciate unless flanking gets a meaningful reprint wave or a pushed new commander builds around the keyword directly.
