Cateran Brute is a 2/2 for three mana that can tutor up another Mercenary from your library — a fair rate in a vacuum, but the Mercenary type is so narrowly supported that the toolbox it unlocks is nearly nonexistent in most metas. Unless you're building around Mercenary tribal, this is a bulk creature that won't move the needle.

Cateran Brute sees essentially zero play across the formats where it's legal. In Commander, the Mercenary tribe lacks the critical mass and payoffs to justify a slot, and three mana for a 2/2 with a situational tutor is well below the power floor of the format. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — the effect is too slow and the body too small. Pauper is the one format where Cateran Brute is at least theoretically relevant, but even there the Mercenary synergies are fringe at best and the card doesn't appear in competitive lists.
