Castigate card art
Castigate strips a nonland card from an opponent's hand and exiles it — no graveyard recursion, no rebuying it later. Two mana for a discard effect that also replaces itself with information is a clean rate, and the exile clause is what separates it from cheaper alternatives.

In Commander, Castigate trades some efficiency for high-value targeting: you see the hand, pick the most dangerous threat, and exile it before it ever touches the battlefield. That's strongest in the early turns against combo players or decks running a single silver-bullet answer. In Pauper it's a legitimate role-player — black-white control shells run it for the exile precision that Duress and Thoughtseize effects sometimes lack at common. Legacy and Vintage have faster, cheaper discard available, so Castigate rarely sees those tables. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander case: targeted hand disruption on turn two can kneecap a combo signature spell before the game starts.

Price Context

Current price

$0.19 bulk tier

At $0.19, Castigate is pure bulk — you're picking it out of a commons box, not tracking it on a buylist. The price is stable because supply is deep and demand is spread thin across casual formats, so don't expect movement in either direction.
