Carom redirects damage from one target to another and replaces itself — all for a single white mana. It's a tempo-positive combat trick in the niche shells that actually want it, and a bulk rare everywhere else.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Carom earns a slot only in decks that weaponize damage redirection — Stuffy Doll or Boros damage-doubler builds where pointing lethal at the wrong target wins the game. In Legacy and Vintage it's too narrow to see serious play, outclassed by interactive spells that don't require a combat step to matter. Pauper is the format where Carom gets the most honest evaluation: cantripping combat tricks have a real floor there, and any spell that replaces itself for one mana is worth at least considering in tempo or Boros shell lists.

Price Context
Current price
$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Carom is deep bulk — buy a dozen copies for less than a dollar if you need them. Demand is too thin for the price to move meaningfully in either direction.
