Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind card art
Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind does two things on the board: it taps for red mana and gives the next Dragon you cast haste, which in any Dragon tribal deck means your threats are live the turn they land. The cost is that it only accelerates toward Dragons specifically, so outside tribal it's a worse Fire Diamond — run it in Lathliss, Dragon Queen and don't look back.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lathliss, Dragon Queen

Lathliss, Dragon Queen

65.4% of decks · synergy 0.63

Lathliss, Dragon Queen's trigger creates a 5/5 token every time you cast a Dragon, so getting your Dragon into play a turn early — and swinging immediately thanks to Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind's haste grant — compounds fast.

02
Ganax, Astral HunterAcolyte of Bahamut

Ganax, Astral Hunter // Acolyte of Bahamut

63.8% of decks · synergy 0.62

Ganax, Astral Hunter // Acolyte of Bahamut generates Treasure when Dragons enter, so the ramp from Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind feeds directly into the engine — cast a Dragon sooner, make a Treasure, cast the next one sooner still.

03
Rivaz of the Claw

Rivaz of the Claw

59.7% of decks · synergy 0.59

Rivaz of the Claw already untaps to cast Dragons from the graveyard, and Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind stacks on top by accelerating the first cast and ensuring whatever Dragon hits the battlefield can attack immediately.

04
Dragonhawk, Fate's Tempest

Dragonhawk, Fate's Tempest

54.9% of decks · synergy 0.52

Dragonhawk, Fate's Tempest rewards casting Dragons with card draw, so the mana acceleration from Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind means you're drawing sooner and chaining Dragons through the turn faster.

05
Atarka, World Render

Atarka, World Render

47.0% of decks · synergy 0.45

Atarka, World Render's double strike on attacking Dragons is already lethal — Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind means the seven-drop can threaten an attack the same turn it resolves instead of sitting vulnerable for a full rotation.

Carnelian Orb of Dragonkind is legal everywhere but earns its slot almost exclusively in Commander, where Dragon tribal is a fully developed archetype with enough payoffs to justify a narrow mana rock. In 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, two mana for a conditional haste enabler that also taps for one red is simply too slow and too parasitic — you'd never run it over a signet or a free-roll piece. Pauper has its own efficient common rocks that outclass it on rate. Commander is the right home, and even there it's a tribal-only proposition: if your deck isn't casting multiple Dragons per game, cut it for something unconditional.
