Carnage Gladiator taxes every player who blocks by pinging them for 1 life whenever a creature blocks, which compounds fast in multiplayer games with multiple combat steps. Four mana for a 3/3 with no evasion is a real cost, but the passive damage output earns its slot in decks that force repeated combat.

Commander is where Carnage Gladiator does its best work — three opponents means triple the life loss per blocking creature, and extra-combat strategies turn the passive into a slow drain that's hard to ignore across a long game. In Modern, Legacy, or Pioneer it's simply outclassed: four mana for a 3/3 with no immediate board impact doesn't clear the bar in formats where the game can end by turn four. Carnage Gladiator is a Commander-only card in practice, and even there it belongs specifically in decks that generate repeated attacks rather than as a generic include.

Price Context
Current price
$0.06 bulk tier
At $0.06, Carnage Gladiator sits firmly in bulk territory — a free inclusion if you already have one, and a near-zero pickup otherwise. Bulk rares at this price point don't appreciably move unless a new commander or mechanic breaks them into the spotlight, and nothing on the horizon suggests that here.
