Calamitous Tide

In Commander, Calamitous Tide earns its slot in decks that can exploit the type restriction — bounce all creatures when you're the only one playing enchantments, or wipe the artifact board when you're running a graveyard engine that doesn't care. In 1v1 formats like Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy, symmetrical sorcery-speed bounce is almost never better than a targeted answer or a sweeper that actually removes permanents rather than returning them; the exception is a combo shell that needs the battlefield cleared at a specific moment. Standard might have moments where the card is playable if the format slows down enough, but it's competing against cleaner options. Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's logic — tight 60-card constraints mean the situational upside rarely justifies the slot.
