In Commander, Burrog Banemaker occupies a niche in tax and stax shells where slowing down instant-speed interaction across three opponents compounds meaningfully — even one extra mana per spell adds up over a long game. Outside Commander, the effect is too slow and too fragile for competitive formats like Modern or Legacy, where opponents will answer a three-mana 2/3 before it generates enough value to matter. In Pauper, commons-only environments can occasionally support this kind of incremental pressure, but dedicated tax pieces at the same cost typically outperform it. Standard and Pioneer are the formats least likely to want Burrog Banemaker, where efficient threats and answers crowd out incremental tax creatures entirely.
