Bubbling Cauldron trades a creature and four mana to drain each opponent for 4 life — useful reach in a long game, but the cost is steep enough that you need a dedicated food or token strategy to make it worth the slot. Without that context, it's a clunky, slow payoff that most decks will never cast.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Bubbling Cauldron sees essentially no play outside of Commander, where multiplayer math makes draining each opponent simultaneously more meaningful. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's strictly outclassed — four mana and a creature sacrifice for 4 life is nowhere near competitive rate in 1v1 formats. In Commander it finds its best home in food-token decks or aristocrats builds where the sacrifice cost is subsidized and hitting three or four opponents at once turns the drain into real damage. Oathbreaker is legal but the format's faster pace works against a four-mana artifact with no immediate board impact.

Current price
$0.29 bulk tier
At $0.29, Bubbling Cauldron is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or from a commons box. It's stayed at this price for years and nothing on the horizon changes that.
