Brine Hag turns your opponent's boardstate into a liability: when it dies, every creature that dealt damage to it becomes a 0/1, which can gut an attacking army in a single trade. The cost is that you need the Hag to actually eat damage rather than removal spells, so the payoff is conditional — but when it lands, it's a one-sided mini-wrath stapled to a 2/2 body.

Brine Hag is a Commander card through and through — the multiplayer environment means more creatures swinging in, more chances to trigger the death ability, and more opponents who didn't read your graveyard zone carefully enough. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with far more efficient disruption and will never see a sleeve in either format. Commander is the only context where a 4-mana 2/2 with a conditional death trigger earns a slot, specifically in blue decks that want to punish aggression or set up sacrifice synergies.

Price Context
Current price
$2.47 cheap tier
At $2.47, Brine Hag sits in the cheap tier — low enough that the buy-in is trivial for casual Commander lists. It's an old, narrow card with a small audience, so don't expect the price to move meaningfully in either direction.
