Brimstone Dragon hits the table as an 8/8 flying, haste threat that immediately threatens lethal damage — the kind of body that ends games on the spot rather than setting them up. The cost is eight mana and zero protection, so if it doesn't close immediately, a single removal spell erases your entire turn.

Commander is the only competitive home for Brimstone Dragon. Eight mana is trivially reachable in a 100-card format full of ramp, and haste means the investment pays off the same turn it's made — relevant against the counterspell-heavy tables where tapping out needs a guaranteed return. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but unplayable; those formats end long before turn eight at natural mana, and nothing about Brimstone Dragon justifies a cheat-into-play slot over higher-ceiling threats. Oathbreaker allows it but the compressed game speed makes it too slow for any serious build.

Current pricing data for Brimstone Dragon isn't available in this snapshot, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for live numbers before buying. As an eight-mana rare without combo relevance, demand tends to stay low — expect a budget-friendly tag unless it's attached to a recent pushed set.
