Breach is a one-mana instant that gives a creature menace until end of turn — cheap, immediate, and exactly as narrow as it sounds. Run it if your deck needs a combat trick to push a key attacker through; skip it if you can get the same effect stapled to a body or an enchantment that sticks.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Breach is a fringe inclusion at best — one-shot combat tricks rarely earn a slot when 99-card decks demand permanents or spells that generate lasting advantage. Pauper is where Breach has the most realistic home, slotting into aggressive commons-legal decks that need cheap evasion to close games quickly. Legacy and Vintage both allow it, but neither format wants this effect at any price. The most compelling Commander use case is a voltron or combat-damage build where menace on the right attacker on the right turn is a repeatable pattern — but even then, an enchantment or equipment that grants menace permanently is almost always the correct choice over Breach.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Breach is bulk — the kind of card you pull from a common box rather than buy. That price is a floor, not a signal; there's no scarcity or demand story here that suggests it moves.
