Braidwood Sextant is a one-mana artifact that taps to add one mana of any color — strictly a color-fixing piece, nothing more. It earns a slot only in decks that genuinely struggle to hit off-color pips and have no better fixing available, which is a narrow brief.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Braidwood Sextant is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a tap-for-one-mana artifact when Ancient Tomb and Mox effects exist. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there it competes against a deep bench of two-mana rocks that both fix and accelerate — Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone, and the talismans all do more for the same or one extra mana. Braidwood Sextant makes sense only in a low-to-the-ground Commander deck that is starved for color fixing and has already exhausted better options.

Price Context
Current price
$0.21 bulk tier
At $0.21, Braidwood Sextant is firmly bulk — you're not paying a premium for power, and that price reflects it. It holds its floor because it fills a slot in a pinch, but don't expect any upward movement on a card this replaceable.
