Bound // Determined answers a threat on the stack and then untaps your entire team — two modes that would each be worth a slot on their own. The four-mana split cost is steep, but any deck that can cast both halves in the same turn is getting a blowout, not just a tempo play.

Commander is where Bound // Determined actually lives — the combination of a counterspell stapled to a combat finisher lines up perfectly in go-wide or tap-heavy strategies that need both interaction and a closing punch. In Legacy and Vintage the bar for split cards is high, and the individual halves don't clear it: Cancel-variant counterspells don't compete, and there are cleaner ways to untap creatures. Modern is technically legal but practically the same story — this slot has better options at every point on the curve. Oathbreaker can occasionally exploit the double mode in aggressive builds, but the four-mana ceiling on Determined keeps it niche there too.
