Boros Cluestone is a three-mana rock that taps for one red or white mana and replaces itself when you sacrifice it — fine on paper, but three mana for one mana is a bad rate in any powered environment. Run it only when you've exhausted every two-mana alternative.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Boros Cluestone is a Commander card through and through — the sacrifice-for-a-card clause has marginal upside in a 100-card singleton format where running out of gas is a real concern, but even there it faces stiff competition from Arcane Signet, Talisman of Conviction, and every two-mana rock that does the same job a turn earlier. In Pauper it's technically legal but irrelevant; no Pauper deck wants a three-mana do-nothing artifact. Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, and Vintage are non-starters — the formats move too fast for Boros Cluestone to matter.

Price Context
Current price
$0.30 bulk tier
At $0.30, Boros Cluestone is deep bulk — you'll find it in any collection binder or precon grab bag for next to nothing. The price is stable because demand is low; this is a card you include because you own it, not because you sought it out.
