Bloodbriar is a green beater that grows every time you sacrifice a permanent — tokens, Clues, Food, or anything else dying on your side of the board translates directly into stats. Two mana for a 2/1 is a bad deal if it stays there, but in any deck generating sacrifice fodder it routinely hits 5/4 or larger by turn four.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Bloodbriar earns its slot, specifically in sacrifice-engine decks built around commanders that churn out tokens or exploit dying permanents — every sac outlet trigger becomes a free size boost. In Pauper it competes in green stompy and aristocrats shells where its common status matters and the ceiling is real in a lower-power environment. Legacy, Vintage, and Modern have no practical use for a 2/1 that scales slowly when their threats end games faster, so Bloodbriar is a non-factor there. Pioneer sits in the same camp — too slow for the format's speed, better options exist at every point on the curve.

Price Context
Current price
$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, Bloodbriar is pure bulk — you're paying for a card, not a card. That price is stable in the way only zero-demand commons are stable, so don't expect movement in either direction.
