Blood Hound is a red creature that grows whenever you're dealt damage and resets at end of turn — a punisher-style threat that rewards taking hits but demands you cash in the same turn. The effect is narrow enough that it earns a slot only in decks built specifically around it, not as a generic beater.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Blood Hound occupies a niche in damage-redirection or group-hug-adjacent shells where opponents regularly deal damage to you — think Heartless Hidetsugu mirrors or Phyrexian Arena-heavy life-loss builds. The reset clause at end of turn is the real limiter: unless you have haste enablers or instant-speed pump outlets, the counters disappear before you swing. Legacy and Vintage are legal but irrelevant — the effect is far too slow and conditional for those formats. Blood Hound is a Commander card through and through, and even there it needs a dedicated home to do anything meaningful.

Price Context
Current price
$0.51 bulk tier
At $0.51, Blood Hound is firmly bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a card with a very specific use case. Don't expect the price to move; there's no competitive demand pulling it, so it stays cheap and accessible for the brewers who actually want it.
