Blightcaster turns every enchantment you cast into a free Doom Blade, and in enchantment-heavy Commander lists that trigger fires multiple times a turn. The five-mana body is mediocre, but the effect is strong enough that Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor builds run it as a core piece of the curse engine.

Blightcaster is a Commander card through and through — the payoff scales with enchantment density, and only multiplayer games give you enough targets to make repeated 1/1 pings meaningful. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but irrelevant: five mana for a 2/3 with a conditional trigger doesn't compete in those formats. Commander is the one context where Blightcaster earns its slot, specifically in enchantress or curse builds that reliably trigger it two or three times per turn cycle.
