Blight Grenade hits every opponent for 4 damage at instant speed — that's 12 total damage in a four-player pod for five mana, which closes games. The catch is the cost: you need a creature you're willing to sacrifice, which limits it to decks that either generate tokens freely or want bodies in the graveyard anyway. In Abaddon the Despoiler builds specifically, the cascade trigger makes that five-mana investment pull double duty.

Abaddon the Despoiler
Abaddon the Despoiler cascades off any spell with mana value 5 or higher, and Blight Grenade sits right at that threshold — cast it, cascade into something free, and still deal 4 to each opponent while you're at it. One quarter of all Abaddon decks run it, which tells you exactly how well the two pieces fit together.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Blight Grenade is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a five-mana sacrifice outlet when those formats close games faster and with tighter tools. Commander is where it actually belongs: 12 total damage across three opponents is a closing threat that forces responses, and the instant speed means you can deploy it as a political weapon or a finisher depending on what the board demands. In Oathbreaker, the smaller player counts reduce the total damage output, but it still represents a meaningful punch for the cost. Outside of those formats, it's not legal.

$0.38 bulk tier
At $0.38, Blight Grenade is bulk — you're not spending real money here. Bulk rares that see 25% inclusion in a popular commander archetype tend to stay in this price band; there's no pressure driving it up, but there's also no reason it craters further.
