Blade Splicer card art
Blade Splicer enters and immediately puts a 3/3 first-strike Golem on the battlefield alongside a 1/1 body — three power across two creatures for three mana is above rate. In Brenard, Ginger Sculptor decks especially, that enter-the-battlefield trigger is the whole point, and Blade Splicer is one of the cleanest ways to cash it in.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Brenard, Ginger Sculptor

Brenard, Ginger Sculptor

74.1% of decks · synergy 0.72

Brenard, Ginger Sculptor turns every nontoken creature that dies into a Golem copy, so Blade Splicer's death produces a second Golem — a loop that compounds fast when you have ways to blink or sacrifice and recur the Splicer repeatedly.

02

Elesh Norn

49.9% of decks · synergy 0.47

Elesh Norn runs Blade Splicer because the Golem token is a free body that powers the Incubator-and-transform gameplan, and every additional creature entering helps fuel Norn's proliferate and mite-generation synergies.

03
Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd

Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd

42.1% of decks · synergy 0.39

Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd blinks creatures for value, and Blade Splicer is one of the best blink targets in white — each bounce resets the enter-the-battlefield trigger and generates another 3/3 first-strike Golem with no additional mana investment.

04
Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines

Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines

33.8% of decks · synergy 0.31

Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines doubles every enter-the-battlefield trigger, so Blade Splicer's ETB fires twice on entry and twice again every time it gets blinked, stacking a Golem army faster than almost any other three-drop in the format.

05
Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos

Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos

27.3% of decks · synergy 0.26

Brimaz, Blight of Oreskos cares about artifacts and Phyrexian tokens, and Blade Splicer produces a Golem — an artifact creature — on entry, slotting cleanly into the artifact-token density that Brimaz rewards with Incubator counters and additional proliferate triggers.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

In Commander, Blade Splicer earns its slot in any white deck that blinks, recurs, or doubles enter-the-battlefield triggers — the Golem token is a real threat, not an afterthought, and three mana is cheap enough to replay multiple times in a game. In Modern, it saw legitimate play in Birthing Pod and flicker shells when those decks were active, but the format has long since moved past a 1/1 with a 3/3 attached being competitive rate without a dedicated engine to abuse it. Legacy and Vintage are legal but irrelevant — Blade Splicer has never been powerful enough for those environments without the specific combo infrastructure those formats have largely abandoned. The card's natural home has always been powered-down, synergy-first Commander, and that's still exactly where it belongs.

Price Context

Current price

$0.39 bulk tier

At $0.39, Blade Splicer is bulk — easy to pick up as a four-of or a cube staple without any budget consideration. The price is unlikely to move meaningfully; it's been reprinted enough that supply keeps it in the bulk box, and demand from Commander blink and ETB decks isn't strong enough to push it higher.
