Biorhythm resets every player's life total to the number of creatures they control — cast it when you have ten creatures and your opponents have one, and the game ends on the spot. Eight mana is a real ask, but Damnation costs four and merely clears the board; Biorhythm clears the life totals of everyone who didn't go wide with you, which is a far harder effect to replicate. Witherbloom, the Balancer turns that life-swing into additional value, but the card earns its slot on the kill alone.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | banned |
Biorhythm is legal in Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Commander, but it is banned in Oathbreaker — the lower starting life total of 20 and the ease of flooding a board with a single planeswalker activation make the instant-kill line too consistent and too hard to interact with at that speed. Commander gives it a pass for exactly the reasons Oathbreaker doesn't: 40 starting life and four opponents create enough variance that holding up eight mana on an open board is genuinely risky, since any opponent with even a handful of creatures survives and you've telegraphed lethal a turn in advance. Legacy and Vintage can run it but essentially never do — combo formats have faster, cheaper ways to end the game, and Biorhythm requires a creature advantage setup that those formats don't naturally support.

Witherbloom, the Balancer
Witherbloom, the Balancer converts every life-total change into card advantage and creature production, which means Biorhythm doesn't just win the game — it also floods the battlefield with token triggers in the same turn, making it nearly impossible for opponents to answer even if they survive.

Current pricing data for Biorhythm isn't available in this page's dataset, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the live number before buying. It has seen multiple printings and tends to sit in the affordable mid-range for an eight-mana sorcery with genuine win-condition status, but prices can shift on casual demand spikes.
