Bestial Menace card art
Bestial Menace puts three bodies — a 3/3, a 2/2, and a 1/1 — onto the battlefield for five mana, making it one of the most token-dense single spells in green. The rate is real: five power and toughness spread across three creatures is exactly what token-doubler and sacrifice engines want.

Commander is where Bestial Menace earns its keep — three distinct creature types across three bodies means it dodges wraths cleanly, feeds sacrifice loops, and scales with any token-doubling effect on the table. In Legacy and Vintage it's firmly unplayable; five mana for three tokens doesn't come close to the efficiency those formats demand. Modern has too many cheaper token generators and too little patience for a five-mana sorcery that doesn't immediately win the game. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander but on a compressed scale, where five mana is a steeper ask — run it in a token-doubling shell or leave it out.
