Bereaved Survivor // Dauntless Avenger flips into a 3/2 with vigilance that attaches an Aura to itself the moment another creature you control dies — the payoff lands on the board without spending a card. The cost is a 1/1 for two mana that does nothing until something else dies, which makes it dependent on a cooperative board state before it does any work.

In Commander, Bereaved Survivor // Dauntless Avenger fits cleanly into white decks that already want creatures dying — sacrifice outlets, token strategies, and graveyard recursion loops all provide the trigger it needs to flip. The Aura-attachment clause has real upside in Voltron or enchantress builds where equipment and auras matter. In Modern and Pioneer, a 1/1 for two that requires a death trigger to become relevant is too slow and too conditional against efficient interaction. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it. Commander is the correct home.

Price Context
Current price
$0.29 bulk tier
At $0.29, Bereaved Survivor // Dauntless Avenger is bulk, and that price is appropriate — it's a role-player in specific archetypes, not a staple with cross-deck demand. Don't expect movement unless a commander gets printed that makes Aura-attachment on death a central mechanic.
