Beacon of Destiny redirects all damage dealt to you onto itself until end of turn — one activation and a lethal hit becomes the creature's problem, not yours. The cost is that it's a fragile 1/1 that your opponents can preemptively kill before you ever need it.

Commander is where Beacon of Destiny sees its real play, slotted into life-gain and pillow-fort builds that want redundant layers of protection for the command zone's most vulnerable creatures. The interaction between Beacon and commanders that trigger on damage prevention — or that simply need to survive combat long enough to generate value — makes it a niche but functional include. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but competes against far more efficient protection spells and sees essentially no play. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: narrow but viable in the right shell.

Price Context
Current price
$0.44 bulk tier
At $0.44, Beacon of Destiny is deep bulk — you're paying for a slot, not a card. That price is stable precisely because demand is thin and the card sees almost no competitive play outside Commander.
