Battlegrowth puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature for one green mana at instant speed — functional, but a one-shot effect at sorcery-equivalent value is simply outclassed by nearly every other counter-placement option in green. It's playable only in dedicated proliferate or counter-doubling shells where a single cheap trigger is worth more than the card itself.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Battlegrowth is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially zero competitive play in any of them. In Pauper, where commons compete hardest, a single counter for one mana doesn't generate enough tempo or board presence to justify the slot. In Commander, Battlegrowth finds its only defensible home in dedicated +1/+1 counter builds — think Ozolith synergies or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider doubling the output — where the instant speed matters for combat tricks or end-of-turn proliferate setups. Even there, it's firmly a budget concession rather than a first choice.

Price Context
Current price
$0.05 bulk tier
At $0.05, Battlegrowth is deep bulk — you'll find it in a commons box before you'd ever order it. The price accurately reflects its power level, and there's no realistic scenario where demand pushes it higher.
