Basri's Aegis card art
Basri's Aegis puts a +1/+1 counter and indestructible on up to three creatures for four mana — that's a combat trick, a wrath shield, and a pump spell stapled together. The floor is high enough that it earns a slot in any deck that runs multiple creatures and cares about keeping them alive.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

oathbreaker

In Commander, Basri's Aegis shines brightest in go-wide token and counters decks where hitting three targets is trivially easy and indestructible before a board wipe is backbreaking. In Modern and Pioneer it's too slow at four mana for a one-shot effect that doesn't generate card advantage, and dedicated aggro shells have better pump options. Legacy and Vintage don't want it at all — the format speed leaves it stranded. Oathbreaker is the closest analog to Commander in power level, and the same token-deck logic applies there.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Basri's Aegis is deep bulk — zero barrier to entry for any budget. Bulk rares at this price point don't appreciably move unless a new format staple makes them suddenly relevant, so pick it up without a second thought and don't expect the price to change.
