Barbarian Guides
Creature — Human Barbarian
,
: Choose a land type. Target creature you control gains snow landwalk of the chosen type until end of turn. Return that creature to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step. (It can't be blocked as long as defending player controls a snow land of that type.)

Barbarian Guides puts a 2/2 body into play and lets you smooth a land draw by bouncing a basic — a modest effect that costs three mana and asks you to already have a basic in hand. The rate is too slow for competitive tables; Barbarian Guides is bulk for a reason.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Barbarian Guides sees essentially no play in Commander, where three mana for a 2/2 and a land-bounce effect is well below the bar — the format has too many efficient alternatives for land manipulation and body generation. In Legacy and Vintage, it's legal but irrelevant; neither format wants this effect at this cost when fetchlands and cantrips exist. Pauper is the only context where Barbarian Guides could theoretically find a niche, but even there the card has never established a foothold, and budget creature-ramp options outclass it on every axis.
