Bane's Invoker puts a 4/4 trampler on the battlefield for three mana — solid rate — but the real ask is the seven-mana activated ability, which is steep enough that you'll rarely pay it without a dedicated mana-sink shell. Run it when you want a cheap body that scales into late-game pressure; skip it everywhere else.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Bane's Invoker earns its slot in decks that generate large amounts of mana and want redundant threats that don't fold to a tapped-out board — the activated ability becomes a genuine finisher when you're floating six or seven mana after your ramp spells resolve. In Pauper it competes in a much tighter field where three mana for a 4/4 is passable but the expensive activated ability rarely fires before the game ends, so it sits at the margins of playability. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters for Bane's Invoker — the formats move too fast for a three-drop that needs another seven mana to threaten a kill. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander read: the card rewards high-mana builds and punishes everything else.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Bane's Invoker is deep bulk — you're buying it for pennies in a bundle or grabbing it out of a common box. Bulk rares with narrow applications don't appreciate, so treat this as a pure throw-in for the decks that actually want it, not a pickup with any upside.
