Azra Oddsmaker
Creature — Azra Warrior
At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may discard a card. If you do, choose a creature. Whenever that creature deals combat damage to a player this turn, you draw two cards.

Azra Oddsmaker turns a single combat into a card-selection engine — designate an attacking creature, deal combat damage to a player, and you draw two then discard one every turn that connection lands. The cost is real: you need a reliable damage dealer and a willing target, which makes Azra Oddsmaker much better in dedicated combat decks than as a generic black-red goodstuff inclusion, and Magar of the Magic Strings decks are its natural home for exactly that reason.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Magar of the Magic Strings
Magar of the Magic Strings creates creature tokens that copy instants and sorceries, so repeatedly connecting with combat damage is already the game plan — Azra Oddsmaker slots in as a draw engine that runs on the exact axis Magar wants to be on anyway.

Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate
Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate recurs small creatures from the graveyard, and Azra Oddsmaker's two-power body falls exactly within Alesha's recursion window, letting you rebuy the draw trigger whenever it gets answered.

Zoyowa Lava-Tongue
Zoyowa Lava-Tongue rewards dealing combat damage to opponents with discard effects, so Azra Oddsmaker's designation mechanic doubles up on that theme — the two cards drawn offset whatever you pitch to Zoyowa's triggered discard.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Azra Oddsmaker is a Commander card through and through — the slow, incremental card selection it provides is fine across a long multiplayer game but nowhere near competitive enough for Legacy or Vintage, where it's technically legal but would never see a sleeve. In Commander, it earns its slot specifically in combat-focused Rakdos and Mardu builds that already plan to connect with a designated attacker every turn; outside that context, there are cleaner draw engines at the same mana cost. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth noting, where the faster pace actually makes Azra Oddsmaker's ceiling lower — you rarely get enough attack steps to justify a three-mana creature that does nothing the turn it enters.

Price Context
Current price
$0.81 bulk tier
At $0.81, Azra Oddsmaker is firmly bulk — low enough that picking up a copy costs nothing and cutting it costs nothing. Its price reflects a narrow role: genuine demand exists in Magar of the Magic Strings lists, but outside that specific home it stays in the bulk bin indefinitely.
