Azlask, the Swelling Scourge turns every Eldrazi Spawn and Scion token into a threat multiplier — proliferate your counters, drain the table, and sacrifice fodder for mana all at once. The catch is that the payoff is gated behind assembling a token engine first, so a curve piece like Devoted Druid pulling double duty as both a mana source and a proliferate target is exactly the kind of redundancy the card demands.

Azlask, the Swelling Scourge is a Commander card through and through — its design rewards the kind of incremental board development and token accumulation that only really breathes over a multiplayer game. In Legacy and Vintage, where it's technically legal, the power level gap is too wide and the format too hostile to five-mana legends that need a board state to function. Commander is the only place Azlask, the Swelling Scourge reaches its ceiling, whether helming its own Eldrazi-spawn shell or slotting into the 99 of any colorless-matters or proliferate deck.
