Avatar of the Resolute

In Commander, Avatar of the Resolute is a role-player rather than a headliner — it belongs in dedicated +1/+1 counter decks where it will reliably enter as a 4/3 or bigger and keep climbing, but it does nothing in a generic green goodstuff pile. In Modern and Pioneer, it has seen play in Hardened Scales shells where the redundancy of counter-doubling effects makes its growth explosive, though it competes with a crowded two-drop slot. Legacy gives it no meaningful new homes — the card is too fair for that environment's threats. Across all 60-card formats, Avatar of the Resolute lives or dies by whether your deck can reliably put counters on other creatures before or as it enters; without that density, it's just a vanilla 3/2.
