Avarax enters as a 3/3 haste for five mana and lets you search your library for another copy when it enters — reasonable body, real redundancy. The problem is that five mana for a 3/3 is a poor rate in any powered environment, and the tutor only finds itself, so the payoff ceiling is low.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Avarax is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it only has a real home in Pauper, where the card pool is constrained enough that a self-fetching haste creature carries more weight. In Commander, five mana for a 3/3 is well below the curve — even in dedicated Beast or red creature builds, there are better options at every point on the curve. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters; Avarax doesn't come close to competing at those power levels.

Price Context
Current price
$0.03 bulk tier
At $0.03, Avarax is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not the card. There's no realistic demand driver that moves a self-referential five-mana 3/3 out of that tier.
