Augur of Skulls forces two discards from a single opponent on regeneration — the payoff is real, but it costs you a sacrifice outlet and a black mana every time you pull the trigger. Run it when your commander rewards repeated discard triggers or graveyard recursion; skip it when you just want a one-shot effect.

In Commander, Augur of Skulls slots cleanly into discard-matters builds — Tinybones, Trinket Thief, Tourach, Dread Cantor, and similar commanders that convert opponent discard into card advantage or damage. Legacy and Vintage have faster, harder discard in Hymn to Tourach and Thoughtseize, so Augur of Skulls rarely competes there. Pauper is its best non-Commander home, where repeatable discard on a cheap creature is genuinely scarce and the regeneration tax is manageable.
