Argothian Wurm lands as an 8/6 trampler for four mana — one of the most efficient stat blocks in green — but the opponent gets to sacrifice a land before it sticks, which almost always costs you the tempo advantage you came for. Outside of Baru, Wurmspeaker, where that drawback becomes irrelevant noise against the wurm-tribal payoffs, it's a hard sell in most green decks.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Baru, Wurmspeaker
Baru, Wurmspeaker triggers off every wurm that enters the battlefield, turning Argothian Wurm's raw size into immediate board pressure and a token generator — the land-sacrifice clause barely matters when you're already threatening lethal through wurm synergies.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Argothian Wurm is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and sees essentially no play in Legacy or Vintage where four mana for a creature with a built-in drawback can't compete with the format's power level. Commander is its only real home, and even there it's a narrow inclusion — the land-sacrifice trigger gives opponents an easy out that blunts the tempo of an otherwise efficient threat. It's strictly a Baru, Wurmspeaker card; in any other green Commander deck, an 8/6 trampler with strings attached is outclassed by cleaner options at the same cost.

Price Context
Current price
$2.38 cheap tier
At $2.38, Argothian Wurm sits in budget territory — cheap enough that it's not a financial commitment, just a question of whether it earns the slot. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to spike outside a Baru, Wurmspeaker reprint or surge in wurm-tribal popularity, so what you see is what you get.
