Argivian Phalanx card art
Argivian Phalanx puts six power across three bodies on the board — and if you have enough creatures already, it costs nothing to cast. The convoke payoff is real in go-wide decks, but in slower or creature-light builds it's just an overcosted 3/3 trio with no immediate board impact.

Argivian Phalanx lives in Commander, where go-wide strategies have the token density to convoke it out cheaply and the card slots to reward a three-body payoff. In Pauper it's more interesting than it looks — convoke is a real mechanic there and three creatures for zero or one mana is a legitimate ceiling. Modern and Pioneer have faster clocks and more demanding competition at four-plus mana, so Argivian Phalanx rarely makes the cut outside of dedicated convoke shells. Legacy and Vintage don't want it at all.

Price Context

Current price

$0.10 bulk tier

At $0.10, Argivian Phalanx is pure bulk — grab a copy without thinking about it. Bulk commons with narrow applications don't tend to move unless a combo or synergy pushes them into the spotlight, and nothing on the horizon does that here.
