Apostle of Purifying Light is a two-mana 2/1 with protection from black and a repeatable graveyard exile ability that costs one white mana per activation — both stapled onto a creature you can actually cast on turn two. It's a clean, low-investment answer to black-heavy metas and graveyard-centric decks, and the price of admission makes running it a no-brainer.

In Commander, Apostle of Purifying Light earns its slot in white creature strategies whenever the table features reanimator, dredge, or black recursive threats — the repeatable exile is more reliable than a one-shot Tormod's Crypt because it sticks on board and discourages opponents from building toward a graveyard win. Protection from black also blanks a significant portion of targeted removal in the format, making it surprisingly resilient for a two-drop. In Modern and Pioneer, it sees narrow sideboard play as graveyard hate with a relevant body, though Leyline of the Void and Rest in Peace do the job faster in dedicated hate builds. Legacy and Vintage don't care about a 2/1 at any price. Commander is where Apostle of Purifying Light actually matters.

$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Apostle of Purifying Light is pure bulk — easy to pick up in a trade binder or throw into any order as a throw-in. Bulk rares with narrow roles rarely climb unless a new commander breaks them wide open, so treat it as a cheap utility inclusion and nothing more.
