In Commander, Anurid Brushhopper earns a slot in Selesnya graveyard and madness shells where discarding two cards is a feature, not a drawback — think Innistrad-flavored recursion builds or commanders that reward filling the yard. Outside those niches, a 3/4 that costs you two cards to protect itself is outclassed by creatures that generate value instead of consuming it. Legacy and Vintage have it on the legal list, but neither format gives it a realistic role — the discard cost is too punishing in a resource-tight game where a single card often decides the outcome. Oathbreaker offers the same Selesnya shell logic as Commander on a smaller scale, and the same graveyard caveat applies.
