Andradite Leech enters as a 0/0 and grows by one counter for each black mana symbol among your permanents' mana costs — in a mono-black or heavy-black shell, that's a substantial body that only gets bigger as you develop the board. The catch is symmetrical: it costs your opponents one black mana per counter to keep it tame, which is no cost at all to decks not running black.

Andradite Leech is a Commander card through and through — the format's slower pace lets you build up a critical mass of black pips before the Leech even hits the table, and mono-black commanders in particular can drop it as a sizeable threat from turn four onward. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; those formats move too fast for a pip-counting creature that starts at 0/0 to matter. Outside of a dedicated mono-black devotion shell, Andradite Leech is a fringe inclusion at best, but inside one it earns its slot as a free-growing beater.
