Amplifire

Creature — Elemental

At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature card. Until your next turn, this creature's base power becomes twice that card's power and its base toughness becomes twice that card's toughness. Put the revealed cards on the bottom of your library in a random order.

Amplifire card art
Amplifire can turn any creature into a temporary giant by revealing the top card of your library and setting its power and toughness to match the revealed card's mana value — until end of turn, that creature swings for potentially 10+ out of nowhere. The catch is the randomness: whiff into a land or a one-drop and you've spent four mana on a do-nothing trigger.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Amplifire has the most plausible home, specifically in decks built around high-CMC top-deck manipulation — Jodah, the Unifier, Golos, or any shell stacking the library with expensive spells can turn Amplifire into a repeatable, unexpected source of combat damage. In Legacy and Vintage the card is legal but competes with formats that end games before a four-mana enchantment generates value, so it sees essentially no play there. Modern and Pioneer are similar stories: the floor is too low and the variance too punishing when efficient interaction is abundant. Amplifire is a Commander-only conversation.

Price Context

Current price

$0.16 bulk tier

At $0.16, Amplifire is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. That price is stable for exactly the reason you'd expect: niche appeal, high variance, and no competitive format presence to drive it up.
