Amorphous Axe card art
Amorphous Axe turns any creature into every creature type simultaneously, which is the whole game for commanders like Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator who care about pirates hitting face. One mana to equip keeps the engine cheap enough to matter.

Amorphous Axe is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it's strictly a Commander card — the one-mana equip cost matters most in a 40-life, multiplayer format where tribal synergies compound over many turns. In competitive Legacy and Modern, equipment that doesn't grant power, toughness, or evasion simply doesn't make the cut when the game ends on turn three or four. Pauper is the one non-Commander format where it's technically usable, but even there the payoff requires a tribal shell that rarely comes together at common. Commander is where Amorphous Axe does real work: tribal decks with mixed creature bases gain the most, and the one-mana equip means you're not sacrificing tempo to activate it.

Pricing data isn't currently available for Amorphous Axe, so check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for a live number. Given its narrow tribal niche and lack of competitive demand outside Commander, it's historically been an inexpensive pickup — expect bulk or near-bulk pricing unless a breakout tribal commander drives demand.
