Altar Golem is a trampling 7/7 that grows with your creature count — in token-heavy Commander pods it routinely hits double digits for seven mana. The catch is it can't tap for combat damage without help, which is exactly why Elemental Mastery exists.

Altar Golem is a Commander card top to bottom — token strategies, Vehicles, and tap-synergy engines all want a massive body that scales with board state. In Legacy and Vintage it's a novelty at best; seven mana for a creature that can't attack alone doesn't compete with what those formats are doing on turns three and four. Modern could theoretically support it in a dedicated tap-synergy shell, but the payoff isn't there when cheaper threats exist. Stick to Commander, where the average game goes long enough for Altar Golem to matter.

Current price
$0.51 bulk tier
At $0.51, Altar Golem is bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a card with a genuine combo ceiling in Commander. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to spike unless a high-profile build puts it on the map.
