Alloy Animist turns each creature you control into a temporary land each turn, generating mana at a scale that punishes opponents who let a wide board go unanswered. The cost is real — you're tapping your attackers to make mana, so you're either a combat deck or a combo deck, not both.

Alloy Animist is a Commander card front to back — the effect only breaks even on a board of three or more creatures, which is the norm in 100-card singleton and rare elsewhere. In Modern and Legacy, tapping your creatures for mana on turn three means dying to whatever your opponent is doing on turn two, and no competitive shell wants this effect at that cost. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander exception where it's playable, specifically in token-focused builds that can assemble a wide board before needing the mana. Vintage has everything broken already and doesn't need it.

Price Context
Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Alloy Animist is deep bulk — you can fill a playset for under fifty cents. Bulk rares with narrow applications don't recover value without an unexpected tournament breakout, and nothing in its design points toward one.
