Allay destroys an enchantment — and if you pay its buyback cost, it returns to your hand for repeated use. Flexible enchantment removal that loops is genuinely useful, but the full buyback cost makes it slow enough that most decks will find a cleaner answer.

In Commander, Allay occupies a niche: enchantment removal is always wanted, and the buyback clause lets you grind through multiple targets over several turns without spending extra cards. The problem is that dedicated enchantment-hate slots in EDH tend to go to cheaper or more explosive options, and Allay's buyback cost competes hard with other things you want to do on the same turn. In Pauper, the common card pool thins the competition, and a repeatable enchantment answer at instant speed has real standing — this is probably where Allay is most at home. Legacy and Vintage both have access to far more efficient options, so Allay doesn't see play in either format despite being legal.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Allay is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a commons box rather than buy. That price is stable by definition; there's no demand pressure that would move it.
