Aleatory gives a creature +1/+1 until end of turn contingent on winning a coin flip — half the time it does nothing. That conditional rider makes it strictly worse than any unconditional pump spell at the same cost, and there is no deck where that trade-off is worth a card slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Aleatory is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but legality is not the same as playability. In Legacy and Vintage, one-mana spells compete against the most efficient cards ever printed, and a 50% chance of a +1/+1 buff doesn't come close to clearing that bar. Commander is the only format where casual coin-flip themes exist as a genuine archetype — Yusri, Fortune's Flame or Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom builds want cards that trigger on flips, but Aleatory generates only one flip per cast and offers no upside beyond the pump itself. Even in dedicated flip decks, it sits below the cut line.

Current price
$0.32 bulk tier
At $0.32, Aleatory is firmly bulk — priced about right for a card that sees no competitive or meaningful casual play. Don't expect that price to move in either direction.
