Al-abara's Carpet lets you pay five mana each turn to prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to you — an expensive, repeatable fog that shuts down creature attacks entirely. The cost is prohibitive enough that it belongs only in decks that can generate absurd amounts of mana and need a permanent political shield, not a one-time deterrent.

Al-abara's Carpet is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but competitive Legacy and Vintage have no interest in a five-mana artifact that requires another five activation each turn when cheaper, more decisive answers exist. Commander is the only realistic home, where the political angle of a visible, repeatable damage prevention effect can buy time in multiplayer games. Even there, the card is a relic — most tables will never see it.
