Aku Djinn puts a 6/6 trample body on the board for five mana — then hands your opponents a free pump effect every upkeep, growing whatever creatures they control. The body is real; the symmetry clause is a genuine liability that demands a specific shell to justify running it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Aku Djinn is a fringe include — the upkeep trigger gives three opponents a free lord effect, which is almost always worse than simply running a comparably costed threat with no downside. Legacy and Vintage have access to it, but a five-mana 6/6 with a symmetry drawback has never been competitive in either format, and those card pools offer far superior threats at lower curves. The card is not legal in Modern, Pioneer, or Standard, which is largely irrelevant since it wouldn't see play there anyway. Oathbreaker is the one place Aku Djinn might find a niche — the lower player count reduces the upkeep clause's blowback, and a 6/6 trample is more impactful in a faster, smaller game.

Price Context
Current price
$0.95 bulk tier
At $0.95, Aku Djinn sits at the bottom of the bulk tier — fair for a card with narrow competitive application and a meaningful built-in drawback. Don't expect the price to move; demand is low and supply from older printings is sufficient to keep it there.
