Agate-Blade Assassin

In Commander, Agate-Blade Assassin is a role-player, not a generalist — it belongs in -1/-1 counter decks and nowhere else, but in those shells it punches well above bulk rare status. Competitive 60-card formats won't touch it; Modern and Pioneer have faster, more reliable ways to distribute counters, and a 2/1 that needs to connect to do anything is far too slow for those tables. Pauper is where Agate-Blade Assassin might flirt with fringe playability, since the power ceiling is lower and repeatable counter distribution is harder to come by, though it still needs a critical mass of support to matter. Standard and Pioneer players looking for a -1/-1 synergy piece have it available legally, but the card's ceiling in those formats depends entirely on what the current card pool can do to protect and enable it.
