Aetherplasm card art
Aetherplasm lets you swap a blocked creature for any creature from your hand, putting that creature directly onto the battlefield — a combat trick that doubles as a free cheat-into-play effect. The cost is a 1/1 body and four mana to set up, which is steep, but any deck built around expensive creatures with enter-the-battlefield abilities will find the payoff worth it.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Commander is where Aetherplasm actually does work — the format's oversized creatures and ETB-heavy decklists give it real targets, and a single trigger cheating in an Eldrazi or a game-ending ETB threat at instant speed is exactly the kind of tempo swing the card is built for. In Legacy and Vintage, the competition from faster, less conditional cheat effects makes it unplayable in any serious context. Modern is legal but offers no compelling home; four mana for a fragile setup piece doesn't clear the bar when better cheat engines exist. Aetherplasm is a Commander card through and through.

Price Context

Current price

$0.09 bulk tier

At $0.09, Aetherplasm is deep bulk — you'll find it in a common box or throw-in pile, not on anyone's radar for price movement. It holds that price floor comfortably, since demand is niche enough that a reprint would be irrelevant and a spike would require a very specific Commander build to go viral.
