Aether Gale card art
Aether Gale clears six permanents off the board for six mana — that's a full table reset on nonland permanents without the symmetry drawback of most board wipes. The cost is that it's a sorcery, it bounces rather than destroys, and six mana is a real ask; Rootha, Mastering the Moment laughs at that last problem by copying it for free.

Rootha, Mastering the Moment

Rootha, Mastering the Moment

57.3% of decks · synergy 0.54

Rootha, Mastering the Moment's ability copies an instant or sorcery for free, and Aether Gale is the single most impactful spell to double — twelve permanents bounced at once is effectively a one-sided game reset when your deck rebuilds faster than the table.

02
Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

Hinata, Dawn-Crowned

45.2% of decks · synergy 0.44

Hinata, Dawn-Crowned reduces the cost of spells that target multiple things, and Aether Gale targets six permanents — that discount can shave this down to a trivially cheap mass bounce that Hinata decks then exploit for tempo.

03
Zimone, Mystery Unraveler

Zimone, Mystery Unraveler

25.8% of decks · synergy 0.24

Zimone, Mystery Unraveler rewards casting high-mana spells for additional card and land payoffs, making Aether Gale a tempo play that also feeds Zimone's engine rather than just spending resources.

04

The Emperor of Palamecia

23.5% of decks · synergy 0.21

The Emperor of Palamecia leverages spell-casting volume and high-impact sorceries, and Aether Gale gives the deck a six-target board disruption tool that clears the way for a decisive attack or combo turn.

Commander is where Aether Gale actually earns its slot — six targets across a four-player table is surgical, letting you bounce the three scariest permanents your opponents control while leaving your own board alone, something symmetrical wipes can't offer. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but effectively unplayed; six mana at sorcery speed doesn't compete when those formats end games on turns one through three. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home for the same reasons as Commander: high-impact sorceries that interact with multiple opponents at once are at a premium in a smaller, faster multiplayer environment.

Price Context

Current price

$0.36 bulk tier

At $0.36, Aether Gale is deep bulk — you're picking this up out of a dollar bin or a bulk lot without thinking twice. Bulk rares with niche-but-real Commander applications tend to stay in this range indefinitely, so there's no urgency either way.
