Acolyte of the Inferno punishes every non-basic land your opponents control, turning their greedy mana bases into a steady stream of damage without spending a single card or mana to do it. Three mana for a 2/1 with menace is fine enough that the passive damage isn't a bonus — it's the whole reason to run it.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Acolyte of the Inferno actually does work — four-player tables packed with fetchlands, shocklands, and triomes mean the passive trigger fires multiple times per round without any effort on your part. Outside of Commander, the non-basic count drops sharply in competitive constructed, and a 2/1 for three competes badly against the raw power level of Legacy, Vintage, and even Pioneer. In those formats, Acolyte of the Inferno is a fringe consideration at best, legal on paper but not threatening in practice.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Acolyte of the Inferno is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a commons box, not a binder. That price is stable for the same reason it's low: casual demand keeps a floor under it, but nothing is driving it up.
